June 14, 2026AN ACT
To amend an act to incorporate a company to construct a toll-bridge across the Shenandoah River, passed Jan. 17, 1829.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly, That it shall be lawful to open books at Harpers-Ferry in the county of Jefferson, under the direction of Joseph L. Smith, James B. Wager, Edward Lucas, jr., Lewis Wernwag, James Hook, Fontaine Beckham, and George Rust, jr., or any four of them, on the first Monday in May next, four weeks’ notice thereof having been first given in some newspaper published in the said county, for receiving subscriptions to the amount of six thousand dollars, to be divided into shares of not more than fifty, nor less than twenty-five dollars each, as a majority of the managers may think proper, for the purpose of erecting a toll-bridge across the Shenandoah river, at some point between the junction of the said river with the Potomac, and the upper end of the Island in the Shenandoah, called Virginius.
Be it further enacted, That the concerns of the company hereby proposed to be incorporated, shall be regulated according to the provisions of the act, passed January the seventeenth, eighteen hundred and twenty-nine, entitled, “An act to incorporate a company to erect a toll-bridge across the Shenandoah River,” except so far as the same may be repealed by this act.
Be it further enacted, That a general meeting of the stockholders of the said company shall be held at Harpers-Ferry on the first Monday in July in every year.
Be it further enacted, That if the said company shall not begin the said bridge within three years after the opening of the books of subscription as aforesaid, or shall fail to complete the same within four years thereafter, or after the completion thereof shall neglect to keep the said bridge in proper repair and condition for convenient passage during the space of three months, they shall be deprived of the benefits of this and all other acts on the subject.
Be it further enacted, That all acts and parts of acts, inconsistent with the provisions of this act, shall be, and the same are hereby repealed.
