State Roads Quarry Foreman Drops Dead At Work Tuesday.
Stricken with an acute heart attack, Charles D. Gross, 60, foreman of a State Roads Commission corps, dropped dead at 3:30 o’clock yesterday afternoon in the former Wade stone quarry, near Antietam. Fellow workers rushed to his side and found him dead. He was a resident of the Chestnut Grove section.
Justice Frank Thomas, Sharpsburg, acting coroner, viewed the remains and decided death was due to natural causes.
Surviving are his widow and the following sons and daughters: Edgar, Dayton Ohio; Bernard, Brunswick; Howard, Sharpsburg; R. S. Gross, at home; Mrs. Garrett Tucker, Antietam; Mrs. Wilbur Lapole and Mrs. Walter Eichelberger, Trego; sisters, Mrs. William Wade and Mrs. Luther Miller, Trego. Eighteen grandchildren also survive.
Funeral Friday afternoon, leaving the home at 1:30 o’clock, services at the Locust Grove Lutheran Church by Rev. W. D. Chapman; burial in cemetery adjoining.
