Let's Talk History.
I genuinely enjoy hearing from visitors.
Whether you’re researching a family member, exploring the history of Harpers Ferry or Bakerton, or simply curious about something you’ve read here, you’re always welcome to reach out. Many of the conversations that shape this project begin with simple, unanswered questions.
* No question is too small. If you are wondering about it, chances are someone else is, too!
1Can you help me with my family history research?
I’m always happy to help you understand records or historical context, suggest next steps, and point you toward useful sources. While I’m not able to conduct full genealogical research on behalf of others, I enjoy helping others make their own discoveries.
2Can I suggest a correction or share information?
Absolutely. The Welsh of Harpers Ferry grows stronger through shared knowledge, and I’m always grateful when visitors reach out with additional context or documentation to share.
3Are you open to contributions, collaboration, or media requests?
Yes. I welcome thoughtful collaborations and discussions with researchers, educators, podcasters, and public history projects connected to Harpers Ferry, Bakerton, labor history, or the Irish of the region. We also accept contributions in the form of guest articles, transcriptions, documents, and more.
4Do you know anything about "X" or this particular family?
Maybe. I don’t always have clear, definitive answers. Unfortunately, due to the nature of most Irish and laborers, records on individuals are often scarce. However, I’m always happy to talk through questions, sources, and possibilities with you if I can't answer your question directly.
5I think we may be related.
The Welsh family were Irish laborers from Lusmagh, King's County, [Offaly] Ireland, who arrived in Harpers Ferry in the early 1830s. They then settled in Bakerton where they remain to this day. Closely connected surnames include Flanagan, Murphy, Slavin, Moore, Dunn, Eichelberger, and Ingram. If you believe you are related to the Welsh family, I'd love to chat with you!
6Can you give me guidance on how to build a similar website?
Yes! The Welsh of Harpers Ferry is built on the open-source software Wordpress with heavy customization. For further details and guidance, please send us a message.
